About My Raised Vegetable Garden Beds

I have been interested in growing my own food for a long time, I have done lots of reading and had some success in growing eggs, fruit and veggies, though not as much as I would like. I think that has something to do with my lack of consistency, and a slap dash approach.

I recently moved house and am in the position of starting a new vegetable garden from scratch. My first step will be to build some raised vegetable garden beds and grow as much as I can in them. For the first time since I started growing my own food I have a nice sunny yard.

I am living high in the Blue Mountains in Australia. Here the climate is cold in winter and usually mild in summer. The climate will affect what grows and what doesn’t ripen, and a sunny yard makes success seem so much more likely.

Hopefully at some stage I will add a few other elements of growing food, such as a few fruit trees, but that is not likely to be this year. There are already 3 fruit trees in the garden, so I look forward to seeing what they will produce. I read an article about honey bees the other day, I love the idea of keeping bees, but I am also very nervous about the idea.

This website will be a place to write about my progress, and to share it with anyone else who may be interested. I am intending that making this public will make me more diligent in meeting nature’s deadlines and putting my ideas into practice.

It will also be helpful to keep a record of what works and what doesn’t, and as a reminder of what I learn as I go. It will become a resource for myself in future years, and perhaps useful to others too.

As for you, my readers, (well if you are reading this you must be interested to some extent, and if no-one reads it, what does it matter that I said that!), chances are you have some interest in the subject too. If you have experiences, stories or wisdom to share then I would love to hear them. Alternatively, even if you are just beginning to grow your own vegetables and food, you may have questions, then please ask them and I will answer to the best of my ability. In other words, if you have something to add to my discussion please make a comment.

Looking forward to some bountiful raised vegetable garden beds.
